PoC & Two-Way Radio Communications for African Operations

Push-to-talk (PoC) radio for African fleets — instant voice across your whole operation, with no radio licences and no coverage gaps.

PoC radio — instant voice, anywhere with 4G/LTE coverage

AFTECH’s PoC radio network gives dispatchers, supervisors and field teams instant voice contact across any 3G/LTE-covered area in Africa.

One-touch group calls, private one-to-one calls, mass broadcasts and dispatch consoles — all from rugged handsets or vehicle-mounted units. Each radio is GPS-tracked in real time, so the dispatcher always knows where every team member is.

Unlike traditional VHF two-way radios, push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) needs no repeater towers or radio licences — just a SIM and cellular coverage. That makes it ideal for mining, security, logistics, agriculture and NGO teams spread across African sites, connecting everyone on one instant network from a single handset.

Multi-network roaming across Africa — and DMR VHF for remote sites

AFTECH’s PoC radios run on existing 3G/LTE cellular infrastructure with multi-network international roaming enabled by default, so most operations need no VHF repeater stations and no annual VHF radio license fees. Where a site has no cellular coverage at all — an open-pit mine, an exploration camp, a plantation or forestry block — we converge PoC with a DMR digital VHF network across the same fleet, using dual-mode handsets that work on both.

Your team gets professional-grade voice communications without the capital expense, network management overhead or per-country licensing complexity of a full traditional radio fleet. Where DMR VHF is the only option, a gateway bridges the VHF talkgroups on site to your PoC talkgroups, so dispatch keeps one view of the whole operation and an existing DMR fleet does not need replacing.

One handheld, PoC and DMR VHF

Dual-mode handsets carry PoC over 3G/LTE and DMR digital VHF in one device, switching as coverage changes — same push-to-talk button, same talkgroups. High-gain receivers and multi-network roaming hold a signal at the fringe of cellular coverage; an on-site DMR VHF repeater takes over where there is no cellular service at all, across remote mining sites, agricultural concessions and rural NGO operations in nine African countries.

Live GPS on every radio, no extra hardware

Every AFTECH PoC radio reports its GPS position in real time, building a complete location history and patrol route audit trail. Dispatchers see all field teams on one live map. Security teams can verify patrol coverage. Logistics managers can confirm driver routes. Mining ops can locate workers for emergency response — without buying separate tracking devices.

Lone worker safety and emergency response

For lone workers in remote mining sites, NGO field operations or overnight security patrols, AFTECH PoC radios provide an integrated panic button on every device.

When triggered, the system immediately alerts the dispatcher and identifies the nearest team member by GPS — drastically cutting emergency response times in locations where minutes matter.

Every radio is GPS-tracked in real time, so dispatch always knows where your most vulnerable team members are.

Lower CAPEX, lower OPEX, lower theft risk

Unlike consumer smartphones, AFTECH PoC radios have no resale value as personal devices — making them a much harder target for theft.

The handsets are IP67-rated for water and dust resistance, built to survive drops onto concrete, and engineered for the heat, vibration and rough handling of African mining, agriculture and field operations. Replacement cycles are measured in years, not months.

Stop buying airtime and replacement screens

Stop the recurring spend on staff smartphones, airtime top-ups, screen repairs and replacement batteries. AFTECH PoC radios run on a single airtime contract per device, with no app stores, no personal use, and no smartphone-fragility costs.

Reach any team member, instantly

Push-to-talk means one button, one second, one team member reached — no dialling, no missed-call voicemail, no email lag. Supervisors, drivers, security teams and field workers stay in constant contact across the workday, whether they're in adjacent offices or hundreds of kilometres apart.

FAQ

Find quick answers to commonly asked questions about our technology solutions and industries.

AFTECH delivers integrated fleet telematics, fuel management, video telematics (AI dashcams), automatic tank gauging, PoC radio communications, workshop management software and visitor management — engineered for African operating conditions and locally supported since 2009. Each solution is tailored to the site, fleet or operation it serves.

AFTECH has seven country offices — Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia and South Africa — plus satellite operations in Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. Local engineers handle installation, training and support in English and French, so you’re never relying on remote assistance from another continent.

Yes. AFTECH provides end-to-end deployment — site assessment, hardware installation, system configuration, staff training and ongoing after-sales support — delivered by in-country teams who understand African conditions: remote sites, dust, heat and intermittent connectivity.

AFTECH equips transport and logistics, mining, agriculture, construction, NGO and humanitarian, security, and insurance and leasing operators across Africa. Solutions are configured to each industry’s challenges, and are trusted by UNICEF, WFP, De Beers, ArcelorMittal and MSF, alongside hundreds more.

AFTECH has been deployed and locally supported across Africa since 2009, combining purpose-built technology with in-country installation and service. That local presence — seven offices, francophone and anglophone support, and a track record with leading mining, logistics, agriculture and humanitarian operators — means faster deployment, faster support and systems engineered to keep working where the work happens.
